Dropbox Sign (HelloSign) Alternative: An Honest Comparison

HelloSign became Dropbox Sign after Dropbox bought it, and it is still one of the cleanest e-signature tools around. Its free plan, though, allows only 3 signature requests a month, and team plans are priced per user with a two-user minimum. Here is how it compares with MultiDocs, and when Dropbox Sign is still the right pick.

In 30 seconds

  • Dropbox Sign free: 3 signature requests a month, unlimited self-signing, no bulk send.
  • Dropbox Sign paid: Essentials $15/mo (1 user) and Standard $25 per user/mo with at least 2 users, as of November 2026.
  • MultiDocs free: 15 requests a month, bulk send to 20, delivery by email, text, WhatsApp or link. Team: $25/mo for everyone.
  • Dropbox Sign wins on its API, Dropbox and Google integrations, templates and compliance.

HelloSign and Dropbox Sign: same product

If you search for a "HelloSign alternative," you are looking at the same tool: Dropbox acquired HelloSign and renamed it Dropbox Sign in 2022. Old HelloSign accounts and links moved over. The product is simple to use, signers don't need an account, and it connects naturally with Dropbox, Google Workspace and other business apps.

People usually start looking elsewhere for two reasons: the free plan runs out quickly, and the price climbs as the team grows.

The free plans side by side

Dropbox Sign's help center says the free plan includes 3 signature requests a month, renewing every 30 days from the day you signed up. Self-signing is unlimited and doesn't count toward the 3. Several documents sent together in one bundle count as one request. You get an audit trail with each completed request, and bulk send is reserved for Standard and Premium.

MultiDocs gives you 15 requests a month, up to 20 signers per document and bulk send to 20 people on the free plan (a bulk send counts as one request). If you send a handful of documents a week, the difference between 3 and 15 decides whether a free plan is usable at all.

What a small team pays

Dropbox Sign Standard is $25 per user per month with a minimum of 2 users, so the cheapest team plan starts at about $50 a month ($600 a year at list price). A team of three is about $75 a month at list price; with the promotional annual price the page often shows ($17.50 per user), about $52.50.

MultiDocs Team is $25 a month (or $240 a year) whether you are 2 people or 20. Paid Dropbox Sign plans include unlimited requests, while MultiDocs Team covers up to 1,000 a month, which is more than most small businesses send.

When Dropbox Sign is the better choice

  • You already store everything in Dropbox and want signed files to land in the right folder automatically.
  • You need an API to send documents from your own app or website.
  • You rely on saved templates, team roles and integrations with Google Workspace, Salesforce or HubSpot.
  • Your clients or IT team need formal compliance documentation, or you need HIPAA support (available on higher plans).
  • You send more than 1,000 documents a month and want unlimited requests on a self-serve plan.

If you mainly need to send PDFs to clients, tenants, parents or employees and get them back signed, MultiDocs does that for less, and lets people sign from a text message or WhatsApp.
