Questions
What people ask us most.
Do I have to sign up?
No. Neither you nor the person signing. They get a link by email, WhatsApp or SMS, open it and sign.
How do I sign a PDF document from my phone?
Open this page on your phone, tap “Choose document” and pick the PDF or take a photo of the paper. Tap “Add my signature”, sign with your finger and drag it into place. Then download it or send it by email. If someone else needs to sign, tap “+ Add another signer”.
Can I sign a Word document or a photo?
You can sign a PDF or a photo (JPG or PNG) of the document. If it's in Word, save it as a PDF first using “Save as”.
Can several people sign the same document?
Yes, up to 20. You mark what each person has to fill in and where they sign, and they all get it at the same time or one after another, in order. If you also need to sign (for example, a rental agreement), you add your signature before sending it. Each signature has the signer's unique code underneath, and the record includes everyone's details.
Can I send the same document to many people, for example the whole staff?
Yes. When sending, choose “A copy for each person” and paste the list with each person’s name and email or mobile (you can copy it from Excel), up to 20 per send. Each person gets their own link and signs their own copy; nobody sees the others’ details. When they’ve finished, you get a single email with all the signed copies and their certificates. The whole send counts as just one of your 15 free sends per month. Useful for internal rules, circulars, authorisations or any document many people have to sign separately.
What does each signer see?
They see the document with whatever the previous signers have already added, just like on paper: their signatures and anything they wrote on it. We only ask them for their own fields, and while signing they don’t see the other signers’ email or mobile number. If you send it in order, anyone who opens it before their turn sees who we are waiting for and can’t sign yet; we email them when it’s their turn. At the end, each person gets their signed copy, without the others’ email, mobile number or ID. If you ask for ID, you can choose to let everyone see everyone’s email, phone and ID number, for example in a contract between several parties. ID photos only go to you.
Can I ask them to attach a document?
Yes. When preparing it, tap “+ Add a detail” for that person and choose “Ask for a document”, or type it in their details when sending (for example, “Proof of payment”). When signing, they attach it as a photo or PDF, up to 2 MB. Only you receive it, by email, as a separate file; the other signers don’t see it. We delete it from our servers as soon as everyone has signed.
What if someone forgets to sign?
We send them an email reminder every two days, up to three times, while the document is still pending. You don't have to do anything.
When do I get the signed document?
When everyone has signed: you get a single email with the PDF and the record. If it takes a while, we send you an update after a week.
Where is my document?
If you sign it yourself, it never leaves your phone or computer. If you send it to someone else, we store it encrypted and privately just so they can sign it, and we delete it 30 days after it's signed (or after sending, if it isn't signed).
Is a digital signature the same as an electronic signature?
Most people say “digital signature” when they mean signing on a phone or computer: that’s what MultiDocs does. Technically, a digital signature is a kind of electronic signature that uses a certificate. For everyday documents in the US, a regular electronic signature is enough. We explain the difference.
Is it legally binding in the US?
Yes. Under the federal ESIGN Act and the UETA, adopted by 49 states, an electronic signature has the same legal effect as one on paper for most contracts and forms. Every document comes with a certificate showing who signed, when, from which device and the digital fingerprint of the original. A few documents, such as wills or some court orders, still need ink or a notary. Read more.
