Is DocuSign Free? What You Actually Get (2026)
Short answer: DocuSign is free to sign documents other people send you, but not to send them. There is a 30-day free trial, and after that the cheapest plan is paid. Here is exactly what is free, what the trial and the Personal plan include, and which tools still let you send documents for free.
In 30 seconds
- Free to sign: if someone sends you a document through DocuSign, signing it costs nothing and needs no account.
- Not free to send: DocuSign has no free sending plan. You get a 30-day free trial.
- Cheapest plan: Personal, about $10–11 a month on annual billing, 1 user and 5 envelopes a month.
- Free options: MultiDocs (15 requests a month), Jotform Sign (10), Dropbox Sign, SignWell and DocHub (about 3).

Signing with DocuSign is free
When a landlord, employer or vendor sends you a DocuSign envelope, you get an email with a "Review document" button. You open it, adopt a signature, sign and finish. The sender pays for the envelope; you pay nothing and don't need to create an account. DocuSign may invite you to create one afterward so you can keep a copy online, and that free account is optional.
That is where much of the "DocuSign is free" impression comes from: most people only ever use it as signers.
The 30-day free trial
To send your own documents, DocuSign offers a 30-day free trial of its eSignature plans. During the trial you can upload documents, place fields and send envelopes. When it ends, sending stops until you choose a paid plan. You can still view and download documents you already completed, so download anything important before the trial ends.
The cheapest plan: DocuSign Personal
DocuSign Personal is the entry-level plan. As of November 2026, sources report it at about $10–11 a month on annual billing and more month to month. It is for 1 user and includes 5 envelopes a month. Team features, bulk send and most automation are in Standard (about $25–30 per user a month, annual) and Business Pro (about $40–45 per user a month, annual), which include about 100 envelopes per user per year on annual billing.
DocuSign's official pricing page shows prices by region, so the US dollar figures come from the secondary sources listed below.

Free ways to send documents for signature
If you need to send documents without paying, these tools have plans that stay free. Limits as of November 2026; we compare them in detail, with sources, in every free e-signature plan compared.
| Tool | Free sending limit | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| MultiDocs | 15 requests a month | Email, text, WhatsApp or link; bulk send to 20; up to 20 signers |
| Jotform Sign | 10 signed documents a month | Shared with Jotform's free form limits |
| PandaDoc | 5 documents a month | Proposal and quote builder |
| Dropbox Sign | 3 requests a month | Unlimited self-signing |
| SignWell | 3 documents a month | 1 template |
| DocHub | About 3 requests a month | Also a PDF editor |
| Adobe Acrobat Sign | About 2 requests every 30 days | Free Adobe account |
Whatever tool you pick, the signature is legally effective in the same way: under the federal ESIGN Act and state UETA laws, a signature can't be denied legal effect just because it is electronic. What matters is intent to sign and a record of it, such as an audit trail.
If you only need to sign something yourself
If the document is yours and only you sign it (a form to return, a lease you received as a PDF, an application), you don't need DocuSign at all. With MultiDocs sign PDF you upload the file or a photo, draw your signature with a finger or mouse and download it. It is free and unlimited, with no account and no watermark, and the file never leaves your device. Our guide on how to sign a PDF walks through it step by step.
